Porsche Cayenne E-Coupe: Diet Soda on Steroids

It says zero calories. But we know better.

That’s the vibe of the SUV coupe market. You tell yourself you’re sacrificing practicality for style. You lose luggage space. You gain aesthetic. The roof slopes down. Your headroom doesn’t.

Porsche gets it. That’s why they made the Cayenne Electric Coupe.

It’s All Clothes

Take the regular Cayenne. Slice the top off. Call it a 911 descendant. It is technically closer to the road car’s silhouette, yes. But mostly? It’s performative.

The Coupe is simply the SUV in slightly performative clothing.

You save 0.02 in drag coefficient. 0.23 down from 0.25. Does this matter? Marginally. Porsche claims no range benefit from the slacker air, though.

They gave me a Turbo model. 1,139 horsepowers. Just… there. My test car was an S trim, slightly more restrained at 657 hp. Base models get 435. The numbers are absurd. The old gas V8s didn’t have this kind of torque. This electric powertrain changes the physics.

Screens and Sunroofs

Inside, things get slicker. The big 12.3-inch curved OLED display? It’s the star. It bends in the middle, creating a nice shelf for critical buttons. Fast. Crisp. No lag.

Surrounded by the digital dash and a massive passenger screen if you order it, you’d think it’s a cockpit of buttons and glass. It’s not. HVAC stays physical. Volume stays physical. Usability remains high.

  • Liquid-crystal sunroof is standard.
  • Wireless charger now has magnets.
  • Sport Chrono timer is included.

There is a “Lightweight” package. It swaps glass for carbon fiber. You get bigger wheels. You lose 39 pounds. That’s it. Less than one percent of the total weight.

Is it worth the premium? Probably not for performance. But does it make you feel special on the Autobahn?

Oh yeah.

Too Loud For Two Hundred Grand

Here is the rub.

I hit top speed on de-restricted German roads. The steering was perfect. Linear weight buildup. Clear feedback from the Pirellis. At 167 mph, the thing planted like a rock. Stability? Unshakable.

But the cabin noise ruined the mood.

Porsche prices this car over $200k. At that price point, you expect silence. Bank vault silence. Instead? High-pitched wind rush. Tire whine. It creeps in.

The Macan EV had similar issues. Is it the new electric platform? Or just bad engineering on the acoustics? I don’t know.

The ride wasn’t flawless either. Active suspension usually handles bumps like butter. On rough patches? Shocks traveled up the frame. Not smooth.

Verdict

The Cayenne E-Coupe isn’t a bad car. It’s great seating position. Great tech. Insane speed.

The rear headroom suffers a little compared to the square box SUV, but your luggage fits fine. The tech is slick. The driving dynamics are sharp.

So why pay extra?

If you prefer Classic Coke, buy the SUV. If you need to look cool while sacrificing substance?

Get the Coupe.
