Volkswagen’s ID. Polo: The Electric Supermini Arriving Soon

Volkswagen is preparing to release its first all-electric supermini, the ID. Polo, with recent spy shots revealing a nearly production-ready design. The vehicle, based on the MEB+ platform, represents a significant step towards more affordable electric mobility.

Design and Proportions

The latest images show minimal camouflage, providing a clear view of the ID. Polo’s proportions and surfacing. The car closely resembles the ID.2 all-concept from 2023, featuring a sleek profile and a tucked-away rear door handle near the C pillar. Subtle body add-ons, including a small roof spoiler and deeper front lip, suggest the presence of R Line trims rather than the high-performance GTI version.

Interior and Space

The ID. Polo aims to maximize interior space despite its compact dimensions. With a 2,600 mm wheelbase, the car offers increased legroom, headroom, and cabin width compared to the current combustion Polo. Volkswagen has teased a retro-inspired gauge cluster and real physical buttons, indicating a user-friendly interior design.

Performance and Battery Options

The ID. Polo will be available with three front-mounted motor options: 114 hp, 133 hp, and 208 hp. These configurations mirror those of the Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval, both built on the same MEB+ platform. Acceleration to 62 mph is expected in around 7 seconds. A hotter GTI variant will follow, delivering 223 hp.

The ID. Polo will offer two battery options: a 37 kWh pack for city driving and a larger 52 kWh pack providing up to 280 miles of range. While the initial target price of €25,000 might not be met at launch, the larger battery pack is expected to be available.

The ID. Polo represents a key model in Volkswagen’s push towards affordable electric cars, blending modern design with practical features and reasonable performance. The expected launch date is late 2026 or early 2027.
