Leapmotor C10 AWD: Family SUV With Supercar Power For $38K

Leapmotor’s latest electric SUV variant is making waves with a shocking combination of performance and affordability. The C10 AWD Sports+ Special Edition boasts 590 horsepower, rivaling the original Lamborghini Huracán, all while carrying a price tag of just $37,600 (USD). This new model significantly elevates the standard C10, which was previously considered adequate but unremarkable.

Performance That Defies Expectations

The standard Leapmotor C10 offers a respectable but unspectacular 215 hp. The new AWD version, however, doubles down with dual upgraded motors producing 590 hp (440 kW) and 561 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque. For context, the original Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 produced 602 hp and slightly less torque. Leapmotor claims a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of just 4 seconds.

This isn’t just about raw numbers; it’s about value. The C10 AWD Sports+ Special Edition undercuts competitors like the BYD Sealion 7 Performance and even some Tesla Model Y configurations by a considerable margin.

Affordability Without Compromise

The C10 AWD starts at AU$53,888 (roughly $37,600 USD), only $7,000 more than the base model. This aggressive pricing positions the C10 as a serious contender in the rapidly evolving EV market. The car’s 81.9 kWh LFP battery provides a WLTP range of 272 miles (437 km) and supports DC fast charging up to 180 kW, taking approximately 22 minutes to charge from 30-80 percent.

Questions Remain About Handling and Braking

While Leapmotor has highlighted the powertrain upgrades, it has yet to disclose whether the suspension or braking systems have been enhanced to handle the tripled power output. This omission raises questions about the SUV’s handling capabilities at high speeds.

The C10 AWD Sports+ Special Edition represents a bold move by Leapmotor, challenging traditional performance expectations in the electric SUV segment. The combination of supercar-level power and aggressive pricing could disrupt the market, forcing competitors to re-evaluate their strategies.
