Genesis Magma GT: Full Variant Lineup Confirmed, Including Roadster and GT3 Models

Genesis plans a comprehensive range of models for its upcoming mid-engine Magma GT supercar, including open-top and track-focused versions. This move signals a bold expansion of the luxury brand’s performance ambitions, directly challenging established rivals like Porsche and McLaren.

Magma GT: Beyond the Base Model

The Magma GT, initially revealed as a concept, is slated for release later this decade. It will serve as the foundation for a dedicated GT3 race car, with Genesis planning a significant production run despite GT3 homologation rules requiring only 250 road-legal units.

According to Genesis creative director Luc Donckerwolke, the concept is merely “the base model.” The brand intends to offer a full lifecycle of variants:

  • S trim
  • GTS version
  • Roadster (convertible)
  • Lightweight model
  • Club Sport edition
  • GT3 road car
  • GT3 R for track use

Donckerwolke emphasized the goal of blending performance and luxury, offering customers diverse options within the Magma lineup.

Engine Decision Pending: V8 Remains a Possibility

The concept model featured a V8 engine, but the final powerplant choice remains undecided. Genesis will weigh customer preference against the specific demands of the GT3 racing class. This flexibility suggests the brand is prioritizing market viability alongside sporting aspirations.

Positioning Against Porsche: A New Approach

While the extensive variant strategy parallels Porsche’s 911 model range, Genesis aims to differentiate itself. Donckerwolke stated the design and engineering will be distinct, applying a “refinement and athletic performance” formula to carve out a unique position in the high-performance luxury segment.

Hyundai Motor Group tech chief Manfred Harrer, formerly of Porsche (where he worked on the 911), added that directly competing with an icon like the 911 is not the goal. Instead, Genesis will forge its own path.

Genesis’s aggressive expansion into the supercar market is a clear statement of intent. The Magma GT, with its planned variants, aims to establish Genesis as a serious contender in the high-performance automotive world.
