Details are trickling out on Chery’s Stockman. It hits Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 20
- Late enough.
Initially. Only diesel PHEVs. A 2.5-litreturbo four-cylinder paired with electric motors. Together. They push350kW. Eight hundred newton-metres of torque. All-wheel drive standard.
Numbers that sound impressive until you ask about the individual components.
We don’t know what the diesel alone makes. Nor the electric motor’s peak. Transmission type? Also a mystery.
Then there is the battery. Capacity withheld. Range? Chery claims 100 kilometers on electricity alone. Under the NEDC cycle. Which is the more generous, slightly optimistic testing standard. Not WLTP. Take that with a pinch of salt. Or a shovel.
Towing capacity sits at 750kg unbraked and 3500kg braked. Enough to move a boat. Or a regrettable purchase.
The suspension is double-wishbone upfront. Leaf springs at the rear. Old school. Cargo tub measures1560mm in every dimension. Length. Width. Height is500mm. Payload might hit1000kg in some variants. We aren’t certain yet.
Size-wise? Big.
Five thousand four hundred fifty millimeters long.2010mm wide.1890mm high. Wheelbase is3250mm. This thing dwarfs the Toyota HiLux. It is100 to200mm longer. At least100mm wider. The Ford Ranger looks compact by comparison.
“Designed to tackle challenging terrain”
Chery says. So they gave it over247mm of ground Clearance. All-terrain tires. Three differential locks you can toggle individually. Front. Centre. Rear.
They dropped some new images too.
You can finally see the flat-fold passenger seat. Useful if you are moving furniture. Or sleeping off a shift. The head-up display is visible as well. We saw more interior bits at an earlier hands-on.
Petrol PHEVs aren’t coming until2027. Just diesel for now. Full specs later this year.
It’s huge. It’s powerful. And we still don’t know exactly how heavy the battery really is.
Maybe that’s enough for today.
