Finding a comfortable bike saddle is arguably the hardest part of building a reliable riding setup. They all look the same. Triangular. Static. Unforgiving. Yet your legs are constantly moving, pedaling in a rhythm that those rigid plastic shells rarely accommodate. Enter the vabsRider. It’s an attempt to solve that friction between anatomy and geometry with something that looks less like furniture and more like a mechanical joint.
It calls itself the first bike seat with a virtual axis saddle. The design splits the seating surface into two distinct halves. Each half pivots independently. They don’t slide side-to-side. They rotate. The pivot point sits high up, aligned with the rider’s hips rather than the fixed point between the legs. This mimics the natural articulation of the femurs and ischial tuberosities (your sit bones) as you pedal.
How the Virtual Axis Improves Weight Distribution
Traditional saddles force your weight onto a static plane. When your legs drive the pedals, your pelvis wants to tilt and rotate slightly. A fixed saddle fights that motion. The vabsRider allows the saddle to follow that micro-movement. By pivoting around a virtual axis located at hip level, the seat adjusts to the angle of your pelvis in real-time.
The result is better weight distribution between your sit bones and femurs. Less pressure on soft tissue. Less numbness. Less need to shift your weight every five minutes.

The Team Behind the Pivot
Robin Macan, an Australian engineer, conceived the idea eight years ago. He didn’t build it alone. He partnered with industrial designer Philippe Guichard. Together, they worked with the Whistle Design Group to refine the mechanism into a producible prototype. The goal was to move past the drawing board and create a product that could actually be manufactured and sold.
The commercialization will be handled by ataraxyBSC, a startup dedicated to bringing the saddle to market. They aren’t keeping the tech locked away. They’re showing it to the public.
Where to See and Test It
No price has been announced. No launch date is set. The focus right now is on visibility and feedback.
The vabsRider is scheduled for display at Eurobike 2024. The trade show runs from July 3 to July 7 in Frankfurt, Germany. That’s where you’ll be able to see the mechanism in action. More importantly, that’s where you can sit on it. You can test the range of motion. You can feel whether the virtual axis actually reduces pressure on your perineum or if it just feels weird.
