Polestar 4 Variant with Rear Window Confirmed for Australian Release

Polestar Australia has announced that a new version of the Polestar 4, featuring a traditional rear windscreen, will be available in local showrooms by late 2026 or early 2027. This model addresses a key point of contention for some buyers: the standard Polestar 4 currently relies on high-definition cameras for rear visibility instead of a conventional window.

Addressing Market Concerns

The decision to release a version with a rear window comes as Polestar aims to broaden its appeal. The original Polestar 4’s unconventional design – lacking a rear window – has been both praised for its innovation and criticized for its practicality. The new variant blends the functionality of an estate car with the versatility of an SUV, maintaining Polestar’s focus on dynamic performance.

“Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class. We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar.”
– Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO

Product Rollout and Growth Strategy

This new variant is part of a wider product offensive for Polestar, which also includes the next-generation Polestar 2 and the all-new Polestar 7 compact SUV. Spy images circulating on Chinese social media confirm the model’s more conventional SUV silhouette. Polestar registered 2,373 new vehicles in Australia last year, a 38.5% increase from the previous year, though still significantly lower than Tesla’s sales volume.

The Polestar 4 coupe SUV, known for its lack of a rear windscreen, was the brand’s top seller with 1,295 deliveries. The company anticipates continued growth through 2026 with the launch of the Polestar 5 flagship GT and expects further volume increases from the new models arriving between 2027 and 2028.

Looking Ahead

The arrival of the Polestar 4 variant with a rear window represents a strategic move to cater to a wider range of customers. By addressing concerns about visibility and offering a more familiar design, Polestar aims to solidify its position in the Australian EV market. The company’s broader product pipeline suggests that it is prepared for sustained growth in the coming years.
