Mid-size truck lovers are buzzing. The Dakota nameplate is back. And Ram isn’t playing nice this time.
They are building an SRT.
A high-performance pickup that sits squarely between daily commutes and dirt-bagging hellscapes. It’s going toe-to-toe with the Ford Ranger Raptor, sure. But it also borrows some serious DNA from the full-size TRX. You know the one. Loud. Aggressive. Expensive.
But smaller. More manageable, maybe, if you can handle the heat.
Expect extra horsepower. Expect a lifted suspension. Knobby tires will stick to rocks. The look? Pure threat.
We don’t know the exact engine specs yet. But the rumor mill churns with talk of the “Hurricane” twin-turbo inline- six. If they stick with that, expect 500 horsepower. Maybe more. That puts a real target on the Raptor’s 405hp chest.
Four-wheel drive won’t be an option. It’ll be standard. Body-on-frame construction will take a beating in the mud and probably shrug it off. Ram will likely reinforce the frame further. Strong contender in the dirt? Yeah.
Why wait for big trucks when the small ones bite back?
Got cash? Got no patience? The revived Ram 15050 TRX returns for 2027. Buy that instead if you hate waiting and have the budget.
What changes in 2028
This is new territory for Ram.
The Dakota name hails from Dodge’s old mid-size days. Back then? No SRT models. Never.
This flips the script. It’s the first time they pair the Dakota badge with the SRT performance badge. Uncharted ground.
Pricing and trims
Ram won’t clutter things up. Expect few, if any, traditional trim levels. Instead? Look for appearance packages. Special editions. Ways to customize the hell out of it so no two trucks look the same.
More info coming eventually. We’ll update the details. Until then. Speculation continues.
The market watches. Ram delivers.
