Leapmotor A10: New Compact EV Aims to Rival BYD Atto 2

Leapmotor has unveiled its newest electric SUV, the A10, at the Guangzhou motor show, positioning it as a direct competitor to the popular BYD Atto 2. The A10 is slated for release in China in the first half of 2026, with potential expansion into markets like Australia under the B03X designation.

Positioning in the Market

The A10 is designed to undercut rivals in price while still delivering competitive range and features. At 4.2 meters long, it is slightly smaller than the Atto 2, but Leapmotor claims superior efficiency and interior space. If launched in Australia, it could become the most affordable electric SUV on the market.

Key Specifications and Range

Leapmotor is touting the A10’s range of up to 500km (CLTC standard) – roughly 425km on the more realistic WLTP scale – thanks to its high-density lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. While full technical details are still scarce, this range places it competitively within the compact EV segment.

Leapmotor’s Expansion Strategy

Leapmotor entered the Australian market in 2024 and has adopted a phased launch strategy: initially releasing fully electric models, such as the Tesla Model Y-sized C10, before introducing hybrid options. The A10 may follow this pattern, with an extended-range electric version (EREV) potentially arriving in 2026 alongside the standard EV.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Tech

The Chinese-market A10 will feature LiDAR technology for advanced driver assistance functions, including autonomous emergency braking and lane keeping. Built on Leapmotor’s latest LEAP architecture, the A10 also offers over-the-air updates and an AI-powered cockpit.

Design and Target Audience

The A10 showcases modern design elements, including semi-hidden door handles, a floating roofline, and distinctive lighting. Leapmotor is targeting both first-time EV buyers and those looking for a second, affordable vehicle.

Future Plans and Ownership

Leapmotor is partially owned by automotive giant Stellantis, signaling continued investment and expansion. The company plans to add the Volkswagen Golf-sized B05 hatchback to the Australian lineup in late 2026, alongside larger SUV options like the D19, which could compete with models like the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9.

Leapmotor’s strategic growth, backed by Stellantis, positions it as a major player in the global EV market, particularly in the affordable compact segment. The A10’s release represents a significant step toward broader consumer accessibility.
