Alfa Romeo has unveiled the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, a limited-edition sedan inspired by the high-performance hydrofoils of the Luna Rossa AC75 racing sailboat. Only ten units will be produced, making this a highly exclusive offering for enthusiasts. The car debuted at the 2026 Brussels auto show, marking a collaboration between the automaker and the Italian sailing team competing in the America’s Cup.
Aerodynamic Innovation from the Water to the Asphalt
The most striking feature of the Luna Rossa edition is its radical rear wing. Unlike conventional wings, this design consists of two separate, upward-protruding elements, mirroring the hydrofoils that lift the Luna Rossa boat above the water. Alfa Romeo inverts this concept to force air down onto the car, generating substantial downforce.
The automaker claims this setup produces approximately 308 pounds of downforce at 186 mph – five times greater than a standard Giulia Quadrifoglio. Additional aerodynamic enhancements include dive planes on the front bumper, carbon-fiber side skirts with upward fins, and vanes under the body to maximize front-end grip.
Visual and Interior Details
The Luna Rossa edition is finished in silver paint with red accents throughout. This marks the first time Alfa Romeo has ever used red badging on any of its cars. Red details extend to the wheels, door stripes (reading “Luna Rossa”), and interior accents.
Inside, the seats feature a new grey upholstery inspired by the material used in Luna Rossa’s crew flotation devices. Even the dashboard is covered with a thin film taken from the sails of the racing boat, tying the automotive and sailing worlds together.
Powertrain and Future Plans
Under the hood, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa retains its twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 engine, producing 505 horsepower. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Luna Rossa edition is a product of Alfa Romeo’s new BottegaFuoriserie program, which will specialize in bespoke cars and restorations. Despite the delayed plans for an all-electric Giulia replacement, Alfa Romeo is now incorporating hybrid powertrains into its future product strategy.
This limited run of 10 cars has already sold out, demonstrating a strong demand for unique, high-performance vehicles. The Luna Rossa edition proves that innovation can cross industries, bringing cutting-edge sailing technology to the world of automotive performance.
