Kia Seltos: New Generation Mirrors Bigger Sportage

Kia is launching the next generation Seltos subcompact SUV, effectively making it a smaller version of the popular Sportage. The new model, already revealed in December 2025, will be showcased at the New York Auto Show on April 1st.

Design and Dimensions

The 2027 Seltos has grown in size, now measuring 4,430 mm (174.4 inches) long – an increase of 45 mm (1.8 inches) over the previous generation. The wheelbase is also longer, at 2,690 mm (105.9 inches), adding 60 mm (2.4 inches).

The exterior design takes clear inspiration from the Kia Telluride, with split LED headlights integrated into a wider grille. The overall look is more mature and boxy, featuring sculpted fenders and flush door handles. The rear styling echoes the Kia EV5, with vertical and horizontal LED lights.

The Seltos will be available in three trims: standard, GT-Line (sporty), and X-Line (rugged), each with unique bumper and trim details. US models will feature amber daytime running lights, differentiating them from other markets.

Interior Overhaul

Inside, the new Seltos features a panoramic curved display with dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Additional features include an AI voice assistant, over-the-air updates, and premium audio options from Harman Kardon or Bose. Ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof will also be available.

The larger dimensions translate to more interior space, with cargo capacity increasing to 536 liters (18.9 cu ft). A dual-level foldable boot floor adds extra versatility.

Powertrain Options

Kia will offer a range of engines, including a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 147 hp (110 kW / 149 PS) and a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit with either 178 hp (132 kW / 180 PS) or 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS). A self-charging hybrid option is also planned, though specific details have yet to be released.

Whether all these powertrains will be available in North America remains unclear, but the hybrid version is expected to be a key offering.

The new Seltos is a clear indication of Kia’s strategy to align smaller models with the design language of its larger, more successful SUVs, creating brand consistency and appealing to buyers who want a premium look without the higher price tag.
